HealthWell Foundation Website The HealthWell Foundation helps the underinsured pay for critical medical treatments. Design Positive brought me in to help streamline the foundation’s complex site—to make it easier for the patients, families and health care providers who use it to get the information and support they need. I collaborated with the designer and with HealthWell to keep the copy clean, clear—and user-friendly. CLIENT: Design Positive  (copywriting)

HealthWell Foundation website

In 2017, Design Positive brought me in to help streamline The HealthWell Foundation website—to make it simpler for patients, families and health care providers to get the information and support they need. We took a complex site, pared it down to the essentials and put everything in plain English, so it's easier to navigate and easier to understand.

Front Street Walking Tour This 25-minute podcast, developed for the Cotton Museum at the Memphis Cotton Exchange, takes museum visitors on a tour of Cotton Row, once the epicenter of the global cotton trade—and on a walk through history. I worked from a basic outline provided by the museum, did some research of my own to enhance the material and shaped it into a compelling, listener-friendly tour. Front Street Walking Tour (excerpt)

This 25-minute podcast takes museum visitors on a tour of Cotton Row, once the epicenter of the global cotton trade, recreating conversations among cotton brokers, factors, merchants and buyers back in 1939 to bring the story of The Street to life.

Brochure for Global Environment Fund This print piece for the Global Environment Fund (GEF) was designed to show environmentalists, investors and civic leaders how this greenfield teak plantation in Tanzania serves as a model for responsible forestry in sub-Saharan Africa. Like many projects, it involved talking with the end-client, gathering up their material and working with to the graphic designer to find the most direct and compelling way to tell the story. Henry Turley Company website

Back in the seventies, Henry Turley Company led the redevelopment of downtown Memphis. They recently asked me to have a look at their company website and property sites to make sure they were getting their story out to next-generation downtowners—and reaching potential residents. Together, we addressed issues ranging from navigability and messaging to clarity, consistency and style.

The best answers come from the best questions. Susan knows what to ask, and how—whether she’s interviewing a clerk or a CEO.
— Sheperd Simmons, Counterpart Communication Design, Memphis, TN
Until I worked with Susan, I had no idea what a professional writer could bring to the table. She’s amazing!
— Lauren Mackler, Lauren Mackler Associates, Boston, MA
Susan is simply terrific as a writer and editor. We called upon her recently when we had a major crisis with a corporate client; she truly saved the day, conducting interviews and putting together a brilliant chapter on this particular company’s last twenty years. We would have been lost without her.
— Kenneth Neill, Publisher/CEO, Contemporary Media, Memphis, TN
